Unity vs. Uniformity

Are unity and uniformity the same?
No.  To my humble knowledge they are not the same.
Unity is displayed when the members of a family, a group, a community, a society, a state, a nation and the globe or in a wider sense the universe, respect, accept and given freedom each other to the diversities exist among them even when difference of opinion from person to person prevails, unless one's personal freedom does not breach or hurt any one else's privacy.
At the same time uniformity is only the similarity in outward appearance in the same habitats mentioned above.
That means unity is something internal and uniformity is only external.

Unity or uniformity - Which is more important?
As we all know, inner beauty is precious than outward beauty. Similarly  unity is definitely of great worth than uniformity. Of-course,uniformity is valuable if it contributes its share to unity. But it is mere hypocrisy if uniformity is just an outward show to hide the internal clash.

Unity and Uniformity - Up to what extent?

Unity definitely can go to any extent. It will not do any harm to anyone. Unity is always something which we seek for. So there is no need of any maximum limit to be marked for unity.
But uniformity has limitations. A uniform set of rules or code of conduct for the smooth functioning of a system is always desirable or even essential. But it's credibility should be checked from time to time if it curtails the freedom to preserve and share the individual creative quality or the beauty of diversity. In other words the rules of uniformity should not be aimed to suppress the creative thoughts of an individual or the sundry culture  of a system  which inspire and energize the natural balance of life in this universe.
Let us do not cut down the wings of the birds who wish to fly high in the sky in order to impose uniformity among the flock of birds. Let us do not compromise with cutting down our head in order to  fit ourselves in the undersized cots provided.

Good Day!

The words which can change the perception of the hearer

Here we have a few moments from the life of a mother and her son.

A high school student reached home after his Science terminal examination. Mother, as usual, asked him a lot of queries regarding the way he presented the exam and asked to show the question paper.

The boy replied, "I gave it to my class mate X."

"Whyyyyy?" Mother screamed and started questioning him.

She asked, "Why did you give the  question paper to that boy? Didn't he get one? Doesn't he know that you need it for the preparation of the final exam? Don't you know that I always ask the question paper when you come home?" etc. etc.

The boy replied indifferently,  "He kept on asking for the question paper as he lost his own. I tried to make him understand that my mother would ask the question paper. But he was requesting me continuously and I just gave. That's all... But the exam was easy and I wrote it well."

The answer made the mother furious. She started to hit the roof, blaming her son for not taking things seriously and for not showing responsibility towards his studies.

The boy remained silent even though he was irritated. His silence was assumed as arrogance by the mother and she was not ready to leave. She asked him again, "Aren't you telling a lie? You might have not written the exam properly and might have left the question paper somewhere  in order to escape from me. Isn't it? Why does that boy disturb others like this? Doesn't he have any common sense?"

The son burst out impatiently. "It's not like that mamma, he does not disturb anyone. Instead, he is always disturbed and teased by others. He does not have any friends because he is slow in thinking and below average in studies. He does not grasp things fast or answer any questions. So most of the students make fun of him. He is always teased and ridiculed as he is fat and dark. So he does not mingle with students much. Only a few students talk to him kindly. He comes to me if he needs something because he trusts me. I did not want to break that trust. That's why I did not object much when he requested continuously."

Mother was too stunned to speak for a few seconds ... "Is this the boy whom I blame for not being aware of others' pain!" Mother felt regret about her wrong perception.

She said, "I am sorry that I shouted at you my dear. I understand and appreciate your feelings. Now I am sure that you are in the right track!"

Welcome Note

Warm welcome to Random Reflections...

This is my new blog.

Sometimes we experience a spontaneous overflow of thoughts which give us an entirely different insight. But after some time we may fail to recollect them. Our brain is not able to store all the  thoughts come into our mind in a fraction of a second. They just come and go every moment. But won't it be better to document the best out of them so that we can analyze them later?

Random Reflections is such a place where I wish to download my vibes, most probably my positive vibes. Sometimes vibes are contagious too! Let my thoughts bring good vibes to you!

Our life is like reels of vivid scenes. How many twists and turns it takes before it gets stuck once, without prior notice! Sometimes we are awaken, sometimes we dream and sometimes we are in deep dormancy. While winding the reels of life  from the status of wakefulness to that of dream or to dormancy, rarely we find ourselves in trance or in state of ecstasy when we completely lose our ego which may last only for the blink of an eye. That is the moment when we experience our inner self, the Supreme Consciousness or the real 'I' matter! How beautiful that realization is!

When I look out through my window and see the vast number of houses, shelters in a way, with a lot of people living inside with their unique thoughts, inhibitions, perceptions and expressions, I get a sense of universal inclusiveness! Inclusiveness is the nature of this universe. It reminds me the famous sanskrit sloka Vasudhaivakudumbakam' (वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम्) in Maha Upanishad.

Universe is the all-time venue of creation, maintenance and annihilation.  It excludes none from its rule.  Each creation is a miniature of this universe. The universal balance between the creation and annihilation is maintained automatically. Naturally, frictions or conflicts arise prior to any destruction. It is impossible to keep ourselves in aloofness or inactivity. Our role always is to be on the part of righteousness, that too, without demanding any reward.
But how to identify righteousness?
Righteousness can be alive only with selflessness. Selfishness kills righteousness. Lack of selfishness will also enable us to work without expecting any reward.
Genuinely there may arise a confusion that what is the point in working hard without aiming any result! The answer is, sincere and selfless hard work itself is the assurance of its result. But remember, reward and result are not always the same. Every action follows a result, either negative or positive. But reward is a recognition which is not compulsory for every action.  The only duty that we have to do is to focus on maximum perfection and to perform our duty in the best possible way. The result also will occur accordingly. Once we realize it, the rest of our life will be serene and beautiful in any phase of our life.

Good day!
